I’m sure you’ve all heard of Salem and the witch trials, but have you ever planned a trip to Witch City? Salem is more than just witches, it is a city rich with history, quaint cobblestone streets, quirky old buildings, and tons of wicked things to do!

Here is a list of 7 Fun Things To Do in Salem, Massachusetts!

Tour the Salem Witch House

The Salem Witch House is the only still-standing building with direct ties to the witch trials back in 1962. It was the home of Jonathan Corwin, a judge who was heavily involved in the investigation and execution of diabolical activity and people accused of witchcraft. It’s definitely worth a visit!

I suggest asking the guides questions about the history of the house, doing so will make the tour so much more enjoyable since they know tons of fun facts that aren’t posted!

Pay Your Respects at the Salem Witch Trial Memorial

This memorial was build in 1992 to memorialize the victims of the witch trials. Twenty people were executed during the witch hysteria, you will find their names carved into stone benches here.

Walk around Salem Common

Salem Common is a large park in the heart of the city, it has been featured in many films and TV shows. I really enjoyed grabbing a warm cup of coffee and strolling through the park as I watched the autumn leaves fall.

Explore Salem Pioneer Village

Pioneer Village is America’s first living history museum where they display examples of colonial architecture, cottages, and dugouts. But even more excitingly, it was used as a filming location for the opening scene of Hocus Pocus!

Ahhhh! I’m still freaking out about this one! It was so exciting to visit Thackery Binx’s cottage! Hocus Pocus is a Halloween favorite and a film I’ve been watching since I was little. Don’t miss out on this one!

Visit the House of Seven Gables

This house was made famous after the book The House of Seven Gables, which was written by American novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, who also wrote The Scarlet Letter. But even if you’re not a literary fan, I heard this house is everyone’s favorite to visit. I didn’t get a chance to tour the house but I was told that you get to climb up a secret passageway (a hidden staircase in the walls) which must be super cool to experience.

Ride the Salem Trolly

One of the best ways to see Salem, and one of the funnest, is to ride the Salem trolly. The trolly service provides an eight mile ride around the city, including a one hour narrated tour and an all day shuttle service. You’ll be entertained by the guides who will share tons of fun history and you will also get a better sense of the town’s geography so you can easily get around.
